I think the theme of the peaceful story, Planting Things is always protect nature and enjoy life.
One reason why you should always protect nature and enjoy life is because if you do something good to animals and don't chase it or hurt it you won't regret it. For example, Mr. Willis planted a lot of plants and a robin came and nested in his Swedish ivy. Mr. Willis didn't harm the robin and her eggs and do anything bad. The Swedish ivy was a very good home for the mother robin and her eggs and the eggs hatched in the Swedish Ivy and the baby birds flew away. An example why you should enjoy life is because Mr. Willis didn't hate himself or anything. He planted things in his garden even if he didn't plant it properly, he still like planting things. Mr. Willis really liked planting things.
Another reason why is that if you enjoy life you can meet a lot of cool stuff. For example, while Mr. Willis was doing what he liked: planting things, he met a robin and he thought that was really cool and his wife went outside and looked at it too.
This makes me realize that I should always protect nature and enjoy my life.
