Marshfield Dreams

I recently read a book called Marshfield Dreams. This book is basically the autobiography of Ralph Fletcher when he was a kid. In this book he had 7 siblings, including him. The order for biggest to smallest was Ralph, Jimmy, Lainie, Tommy, Bobby, Johnny and the last was Joey. He had very specialized siblings.

I think that Jimmy was a nature creature. For example, he was able to tell the difference between a beaver skull and a cat skull. Another example is that he is also able to tell the difference between a garden snake and a regular snake. So this means that he is a nature creature.

Tommy was a naughty boy. For example, he knocks everybody’s buildings and destroys all their toys. He can be the least sharpest knife in the drawer. For example, he found a discarded cigarette, broke it in half and then he gobbled it. He also ate dandelions, found some grass and ate it, he chewed sticks and even pried some used gum off the street and chewed it. Another example is that he said that he was hungry and Jimmy asked him, “Why did you not eat some regular food?” And Tommy gave the world’s most worst excuse. “I did not have any.”

Have you read Marshfield Dreams? It is a funny book and I would recommend this book to anyone seeking for the life of Ralph Fletcher when he was a kid.

Calvin and Hobbes Asb- Week 5 or 6

I was reading a book called Calvin and hobbes it is a fun book,you can also understand the words. It is a comic strip. Calvin does all sort of stuff like play with hobbes, Prank a girl called Susie and ECT  .

It is easy to get absorbed in the book because it is interesting, and also it has humor in the for example..look. I chose to blog about this book because it is a popular and as I said interesting too. You too feel like you are in there watching. This by an author called Bill Watterson.

Ruby Redfort - Look into My Eyes - ASB

Ruby Redfort - Look into My Eyes

This book is by Lauren Child.  An author who wrote a series about a girl named Ruby Redfort. In this book Ruby is given a secret coded message telling her the right place at the right time. Ruby was almost best kid code-breaker ever in Twinford. Ruby finds out that she has been accepted at a secret agency called Spectrum.

When I started reading this book I thought it was going to be really boring because the start of the book was just the intro which is normal but it lasted really long and I thought there would no action at all. But then suddenly, when I was just about to abandon the book action, fun, and mystery came barreling in. That was one of the great things I thought Lauren Child did really well at. One of the things that I thought she should tweak a little was the length of the Intro. It was way too long and if it hadn’t been for my sister who was pushing me to keep on reading and wait, I would have abandon the book much earlier. But now I’m already have way through the last book of the series which is called Ruby Redfort - Feel the Fear.

This book is really interesting and I would recommend for anyone to read this book and the rest of the books in the series. This book is great except for the part I talked about in the paragraph above. Recently I read a book called Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. In this book Zeus, the god of the sky thinks that Percy stole his master lightning bolt. He also blamed Poseidon, the god of water because he is Percy’s son. His mother also died at the beginning. Hades, the brother of Zeus was trapped in a mansion. He trapped a girl and forced her to marry him. Percy also visits Hades in the book. He kills Hades also.

I think that his father loved Percy so much. For example, he built a whole cabin on a lake with some of his weapons. Another example is that he really wanted to meet him because his brother, Zeus had banned all gods from making physical contact with their children. So this means that Percy’s father, Poseidon loved Percy.

I also think that his mother also loved him. For example, she sacrificed her life for Percy. Another example is that she let him drink a ton of coke and he got a monstrous soda burp. That burp was about 10 seconds long in my opinion. So this means that not only Percy’s father loves him, but his mom also loves him.

I think that Zeus thought that Percy stole his lightning master bolt. For example, Zeus and Poseidon have a link between them. Another example is that he is jealous that P.’s son is still alive and Z.’s daughter is a tree that guards the camp that Percy lives in. So this means that Zeus thinks that Percy stole Zeus's lightning master bolt.

Actually, Luke hid Zeus's lightning master bolt. In the end, he actually hid the master bolt in his shield which he made Percy take with him.

Week 4 Horrid Henery (ASB)

Recently I was reading a book called Horrid Henry 3 books in one. The author who wrote this book is Francesca Simon.

My favorite chapter was Horrid Henry’s Hobby. It’s about Horrid Henry Who collects Gizmos But Perfect Petter  his brother wants it too. So they have a fight over it

Their mom came and said it was Perfect Petters turn so peter got it . But Horrid Henry was horrid and did a prank he said do you know if you have the Golden Gizmos (The lasts one they needed.) you die soon.

I liked this book it had detail and a lot of action in it and it was like he was going to do something really exciting.

The Throne of Fire (ASB)

Recently I started reading the book The Throne of Fire by one of my favorite authors Rick Riordan. This book is about how Apophis ( The Egyptian god of Chaos) is trying to get out of the Duat so he can swallow the sun and Chaos can rule forever. So Carter and Sadie try to wake up Ra ( The sun god) so chaos cannot rule.

I really easily got sucked up into this book because the author Rick Riordan makes the book really suspenseful by making you think that Carter and Sadie will not be able to accomplish their mission. When I was reading the story I kept on thinking about how Carter and Sadie felt accomplishing so many obstacles and trying to save the world even though they might have gotten killed themselves.

Rick Riordan makes you get a picture in your mind. For example this part: “  His eyes were full of loneliness. I couldn’t believe he would hurt us - until he drew from his belt two very large knives with curly blades like his horns.” In my mind I could see and harmless creature who  turns into a ferocious beast.

This is a really powerful book which made me think about confidence and overcoming challenges. Have you ever been confident and been able to overcome challenges?

The Sea of Monsters (ASB)

The Sea of Monsters is another great book by Rick Riordan. Rick Riordan is an author who plays around with mythology. In this book he uses Greek mythology. The main character in this book is Persues (Percy) Jackson son of Poseidon.

Since this book was number two in the series it was almost impossible not to be really eager to read the series for the second time. Rick Riordan puts a series of really interesting chapters and has other chapters that make you feel different.  Meaning that Rick Riordan makes you have lots of different emotions. For example, one of them might be: getting really excited and wanting to read more.

Rick Riordan is an author that puts many feelings inside your head. Have you read any books that put strong emotions in your head? Let me know by commenting.

Week 3 Group 3 My Side of the Mountain ASB

Throughout the book Sam has changed in many ways. For example Sam couldn’t do lot of different things when he first came to the mountain. He didn’t know what to do and how to survive in the wild. At what moment in the story do you think Sam changed the most and why do you think that?

I think that at the moment he met Bando was his turning point because he found some relief that he would not be alone in the wild. For example, he was wandering desperately around the mountain with Frightful for a person to interact with. So this means that he is desperate for a bit of support from other people.

I think that in the book On the Far Side of the Mountain it will tell about Bando. For example, in My Side of the Mountain it told about Sam’s life. This means that in the book On the Far Side of the Mountain will tell about Bando’s life on the mountain.

I also think in the entire book Sam had been a person he never knew about. This could be like migration but not from one place to another. For example, he decided to move but he did face challenges, risks and opportunities. Another example is that he reacted to challenges, risks and opportunities. So this means that this is like migration.

Week 2 Group 5 Number The Stars ASB

"During chapter 8, "There Has Been a Death", the Johansens pretended that there was a death. Two men helped carry the coffin, full of blankets, into the house. Do they know what's in the coffin? Are they part of the Resistance? How do you know if they are (or not) part of the Resistance?"

 

I think that they are part of the Resistance, because they are delivering the coffin and I think they would have looked inside as it is human nature that people are curious. And since they did not tell any one anything if they looked inside, I think they are part of the Resistance.

My opinion about Bando is that he has never experienced survival skills. For example, he only bought 5 lbs. of sugar. Another example is that he brought some strawberry jam. This shows that he needs to take his personal survival skills test so that he knows how well he will do if he was stranded in the real world.

I think Sam trusted Bando because he brought enough food for at least a month. I also think that Sam made a wise choice of  trusting Bando because Bando was a teacher. He can learn and get educated while he was in the mountain.

WK3-GRP5- Number The Stars

During chapter 14 and 15, two german soldiers stopped Annemarie from taking the package to Uncle Henrik. What might the importance of this package be in the context of the story and how does the author use this incident to build suspense?

If you were Annemarie, how would you be feeling at this stage and why? Use evidence from the text to support your ideas.

The author builds suspense in a lot of ways so I can't just name one.

If I was Annemarie I would be feeling scared two soldiers stopping me and I hate guard dogs because they growl and bark and it just scares me.

In the last few chapters when they are helping ellen and her family get away from the germans because the are jews its weird because the cloth took away the dogs smell witch is good because then the dogs wont be able to find the hidden door in the boat.

If I was Uncle Henrik I would have done the same but I wouldn't use the cloth. I would use the food because dogs smell their food before eating it. This would mean that the dogs would also eat it witch is double the greatness.

What would you do would you use the cloth or would you use the food?

Week 1: Group 3- My Side of the Mountain Response

In chapters 1-3, Sam decides to move to Catskill mountains.  In these chapters, he is up to the survival skill test.  Why do you think he moved to Catskill mountains?  What would you do if you were him?

I think that in chapters 1-3 Sam made a good and bad choice. The bad part of it was that he would be limited to his resources and live a lower quality life. The good part about it was that he would be more independent and be in a less crowded environment.

I think he moved to Catskills mountain because he was in New York City. In New York City, it was very, very crowded. I think he visited Catskills mountain a couple of times, so he has some background knowledge of Catskills mountain. He also has the basic knowledge of Catskills mountain.

If I were him, I would go back to New York City and get all of my belongings and head to Catskills mountain.  I would make one big bonfire and sleep next to it at night. I would be limited to resources, so I would chop a bunch of trees down. I wonder if he was thinking very deep or did he just take his chances?
