The author shows me how Gabriel feels lonely by how Gabriel is on the stoop of a crumpling building thinking about him in school with his peanut butter sandwich at lunch and how he was the only one how got all the answers right at school. He also explained  how he was lonely because he was on a stoop with no one to keep company.
