 We all agree that he moved to the Catskill Mountain for the adventure (I think he is testing his surviving skills and being independent in the wildlife)of the Catskills mountains and he was excited to find the land of his great grandfather.

 I would definitely bring books and information for Catskill Mountains.I would pack my bag. I would also bring some food just in case. I would also use my background knowledge.I would take something to cut wood and make a tree house out of it.I would also keep my food there (somewhere hiding so monkeys can't take it).
